Jessica Specter
Jessica Specter is a Florida born and raised creative from the Space Coast and University of North Florida Communications Alumni. I have written five books to date, developed two indie decks and even founded a nonprofit organization for animals.
I’ve been practicing tarot for over 11 years and in 2023 started designing my very own version of tarot – the Specter Pink Tarot! Shortly thereafter I designed Specter Cosmos Oracle.
You see, I grew up right next to the Kennedy Space Center. That means hearing rockets rumble and shake your house at night while lighting up the sky as bright as day. Space is a humongous industry in my area – and so one could say it had an effect! Very early on I knew that Saturn was my favorite planet (those gorgeous rings!) and black holes scared me – but I needed to know more, and so you could find 9-year-old Jessica watching black hole documentaries.
In my free time I love to walk and play with my dog Cerberus, workout, make plans with my friends and create!
Fun Facts & More
Another one of my favorite pass-times is genealogy. From such interest I’ve been able to join a variety of groups. I am in the Daughters of the American Revolution, having at least 8 patriot ancestors identified (and possibly more!) I am a part of the Towne Family Association through Rebecca Towne, an accused witch executed during the Salem Witch Trials. I am also related to Susanna Rootes who was accused of witchcraft and later released. I am in the process of joining the Associated Daughters of Early American Witches. Aside from heritage, I am associated with Brevard Astronomical Society and the American Communication Association.
The Making of the Products
To the right you will see a picture of me the day my Specter Cosmos Oracle finally arrived! The entire process was lengthy, and as a one-woman shop owner you can imagine how tiresome it can be, but oh-so worth it. I had to get a picture with my telescope – it just makes sense, space deck, space viewer, you know.
I’ve been drawing and writing stories since I could hold a pencil but for these decks I used skills I learned in college about design as well as my own artistic eye to bring my vision to life. All the designs in this deck were drawn with my digital pencil. I’m sure I could’ve actually drawn them by hand but that’s an entirely different process I didn’t (and don’t know) how to get into.
I learned so much about printing and product design through these creations. It was a steep learning curve, but once you grasp it you’re set.
Honestly, I never created either of these sets with the intention of selling them. I originally planned to just design and print a set at home for myself. It wasn’t until one of my best friends encouraged me to share it with others that I even considered selling.
